Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles news and Classics announced!

Nintendo have jumped on the Resident Evil bandwagon and decided to re-release the Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil Zero from the Gamecube on the Wii.

They have also released an official blurb on The Darkside Chronicles, the sequel to the Umbrella Chronicles:

“Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles’s story is based on Resident Evil 2 and includes the popular characters, Leon S Kenney and Claire Redfield. Its on-rails style gameplay and active camera will create a more immersive “Chronicles” survival experience. As in the last installment, this is a first-person game with extreme shooting gameplay and interactive pathways. Filling in many of the missing pieces of storyline that were not covered in the original “Umbrella Chronicles”, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will give hardcore fans the chance to re-live some of the most classic moments of the Resident Evil franchise, while allowing new players to take advantage of the intense action-horror experience only possible on the Wii.

Gamers can choose to take on their enemies with the help of an A.I.-controlled character or enlist the help of a friend to fight via two-player co-op. Adding new dimension and strategy to the arcade-style gameplay in the “Chronicles” experience, the new Evade system will utilize the Wii Remote for a more intense experience when fighting enemies.
Capcom’s new Resident Evil “Classics” line will allow the new audience who has embraced the Wii to experience some of the greatest games in the Resident Evil franchise for the value price of $29.99. Both set to launch this year, the remake of Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero have been refitted to support the Wii Remote, giving the Wii audience easy access to the rich characters and in-depth storylines of the series and the chance to experience both games on a new platform.”

Dead Space Extraction details!

More details about the Wii exclusive Dead Space Extraction, have been released today.

Speaking exclusively to CVG, Glen Schofield of EA Redwood Shores said that the game “…takes place about three weeks before Isaac, the protagonist in the original Dead Space, gets to the Ishimura, the ship where the first game’s set, said Schofield.

You begin the game on a planet before setting off to the Ishimura which is at the time inhabited by people – before things turn nasty.

He also revealed that you’ll get to play as a couple of people and that there’s a heroine that you have to protect and save.

…Schofield said the flamethrower will make a return, plus there’ll be a couple of different pistols.”

Looking pretty cool, let’s just hope it can meet the standards of the Wii’s version of Resi 4!

In the same interview, Schofield also said that a proper sequal to Dead Space is likely!

New Spectrobes game announced for the Wii!

Disney Interactive announced today that a new game in the Spectrobes series will hit the Wii this Autumn. Spectrobes: Origins will be first title to get a Home Console release, after it’s hude success on the DS.

Disney had this to say about the announcement: “Spectrobes: Origins brings the successful series to the Wii with a new story that reveals secrets from the past through flashbacks of significant events…In Spectrobes: Origins, players will use the unique Wii controls to explore vast worlds, excavate three-dimensional fossils and unravel an engaging story while discovering the key to preventing a galactic threat. While immersed in the universe as never before, players will fight enemies in large-scale, action-packed battles in real time.”

Madworld gets solid release date.

Madworld has been stamped with a March 20th release here in the UK.

The games producer, Atshushu Inaba, had to say this about the expected criticism to hit the game: “In terms of the violence, we expected to have some criticism. But at the end of the day we are creating a game that is suitable only for a mature audience…Some people may take offence but you just can’t please everyone. I hope that gamers will appreciate the game as a form of entertainment and not focus on the irreverent violent content….The Wii is the most popular console in the world but there are not many games tailored to adult gamers,”

I’m guessing the British newspapers will have something moan about next month then.

Dead Space Extraction Wii trailer!

The all new Dead Space prequel, set to be released on the Wii in Autumn, has just had some footage released by EA.

The official press release reads: “All-New Hero, Story and Characters Extend the Dead Space Universe.

Guildford, UK; February 18, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed Dead Space Extraction, an all-new chapter from the studio that delivered the award-winning action-horror Dead Space game.

Built from the ground up and developed exclusively for the Wii, Dead Space Extraction is a prequel that reveals the events leading up to Isaac Clarke’s mission on the USG Ishimura in the original Dead Space game released in 2008. Dead Space Extraction will marry the innovative motion controls of the Wii Remote with a frenetic first person perspective to create a new action-packed horror experience.

Dead Space Extraction tells the story of a handful of space colonists desperately struggling to escape from a horrific infection on the Aegis VII mining colony deep in the furthest regions of space. The game introduces a new heroine to the fiction and as the crew fall victim to a mysterious contagion aboard the ship, it becomes clear that protecting her may be their only hope for survival. Dead Space Extraction introduces all new characters, weapons, enemies, puzzles and co-operative multiplayer gameplay.

“We could not be more excited to extend Dead Space into an experience exclusive to the Wii. Nintendo has a wonderful history in the horror genre and we are thrilled to build on that tradition with Dead Space Extraction,” said Glen Schofield, VP and General Manager of EA Redwood Shores studio. “As we were developing Dead Space, we realized that there was so much of the story going untold. Dead Space Extraction tells that story with all of the intensity, blood and gore that fans would expect.”

Dead Space Extraction is an EA Redwood Shores title and is scheduled to ship in Autumn 2009. This product has not yet rated by ESRB or PEGI.”
